Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor and defender Michael Kibwage have expressed confidence and determination ahead of the team’s league encounter against Bidco FC tomorrow at Kasarani Stadium.
Addressing the media in the pre-match press conference, Akonnor revealed that the team has prepared thoroughly and believes they are in excellent condition heading into the fixture.
“We have prepared adequately and we believe we are in a very good shape,” said the coach.
“We know that historically they have been better than us from match to match, but we are confident this is a new day, a new moment, and a new approach. We believe we will do our best to get a victory.”
The Ghanaian tactician highlighted the improvements in Gor Mahia’s playing style, pointing to sharper ball movement, aggressive counter-pressing, compact defending, and overall game control as key strengths.
“Our style of play has improved. We move the ball very quickly, we do counter-pressing, we are very compact, and we make sure we control the game. That is what we are going to do tomorrow,” he added.
“In the first match against them, we dominated the game but unfortunately conceded. This time, we will be better than we were before. We believe we are in a good position to get the victory.”
Team vice-captain Michael Kibwage echoed the coach’s sentiments, noting the positive atmosphere within the squad and the collective focus on securing maximum points.
“The mood in the camp is very good, and we thank God for that. We are a full house despite a few knocks here and there,” said Kibwage.
“We know the momentum we are having now, and we also know the history of this fixture and what happened in the first leg. All in all, we have prepared well, the confidence is now in the team, and we hope to turn the table on them and win this game.”
Looking ahead to the second half of the season, Kibwage emphasized the importance of consistency and maintaining pressure at the top of the table.
“As we start the second leg tomorrow, we believe and we are hopeful that we are going for the maximum points. Every player in this team knows the magnitude of this game,” he said.
“We believe we have to win our matches to keep the pace at the top because we do not know what will happen in our opponents’ fixtures. We cannot determine their games; we can only determine ours. There is now no room for laxity or dropping points.”
With confidence high and preparations complete, Gor Mahia will be aiming to translate their positive form and mentality into another crucial victory as the title race intensifies.
