As the new Kenyan top-flight season gets underway tomorrow, Gor Mahia will once again take their place among the country’s football elite, continuing a remarkable journey that has stretched across generations.
Founded in 1968, K’Ogalo made an immediate impact by winning the league title in their inaugural year.
From that historic beginning, the club has grown into one of the defining forces of Kenyan football, collecting domestic honours and creating memories that have been passed from one generation of supporters to another.
Tomorrow’s opening fixture therefore represents more than just the beginning of another campaign.
It adds another chapter to a top-flight story that has now spanned almost six decades.
Gor Mahia’s first league title came in 1968, the same year the club was founded.
Since then, the green and white giants have remained central to the history of Kenya’s top-flight football.
The FKF’s historical record lists Gor Mahia as the league’s most successful club, with 22 top-flight championships, including the latest crown secured in 2026.
The club’s title-winning years stretch across different generations: 1968, 1974, 1976, 1979, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2026.
That list tells the story of a club that has repeatedly reinvented itself while maintaining a familiar place at the summit of Kenyan football.
The historic milestones
Among the many achievements that define Gor Mahia’s league journey is the club’s ability to produce dominant stretches.
In 1976, K’Ogalo completed an unbeaten league campaign — a feat that would be repeated decades later.
The 2015 side also went through the entire league season unbeaten, finishing the campaign with 30 matches without defeat.
That team also completed a third consecutive league title triumph, echoing the achievement of the legendary 1983–1985 generation.
Another landmark came in 2020, when Gor Mahia became the first Kenyan club to win four consecutive league titles, underlining the remarkable consistency of K’Ogalo during that era.
And in 2026, the club added another milestone by reclaiming the championship and extending its record to 22 league titles.
For our supporters, Gor Mahia represents the glory days of the 1970s and 1980s.
For others, it is the dominant K’Ogalo of the 2010s.
For the younger generation, it is the team that continues to chase trophies in the modern era.
That is perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the club’s top-flight story — the ability to remain relevant through different eras of Kenyan football.
The names have changed. The coaches have changed. The competition has changed. But the expectation attached to the green and white shirt has remained remarkably familiar: compete, fight for honours and make the supporters proud.
With the 2026 campaign beginning tomorrow, Gor Mahia once again step onto the league stage carrying decades of history on their shoulders.
The 22 league titles already sit proudly in the club’s record.
The unbeaten campaigns, title-winning runs, legendary players and unforgettable matches form part of a history that cannot be separated from the story of Kenyan football.
A new squad, a new campaign and a new generation of supporters will begin writing the next chapter of the Gor Mahia story.
And as K’Ogalo walk onto the pitch once again, one thing remains unchanged: the journey continues.
