Akonnor: We are ready to fight for positive result

Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has insisted that his side is ready to fight for a positive result when they face Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the second leg of their CAF encounter in Cairo on Sunday.

The Ghanaian tactician believes Gor Mahia have learned valuable lessons from the opening encounter and will approach the second leg with determination as they look to give themselves a chance of turning the tie around.

“We are ready to fight. We know it will not be easy, but we have to go there and do the right things,” Akonnor said.

Pyramids will provide another stern test for K’Ogalo, having shown their quality in the first meeting and boasting a squad packed with experienced players.

Akonnor, however, is not reading too much into Pyramids’ strength and insists Gor Mahia must concentrate on their own performance.

“They are a good side. They have already played four league matches and lost none. They have a lot of their players in the national team, but I believe when we do the right thing in the second leg, we will also get the results,” he added.

The coach’s message comes at a crucial moment for Gor Mahia, with the players needing both belief and discipline if they are to mount a serious comeback.

Gor Mahia have a history of fighting until the final whistle in continental competitions, and Akonnor will be hoping that spirit comes alive once again in Cairo.

For K’Ogalo, the mission is simple but demanding, stay organised, take their chances and maintain their belief for the entire 90 minutes.

With the pressure firmly on their shoulders, Akonnor’s confidence could prove important as Gor Mahia prepare for what promises to be a tough night in Egypt.

The stage is now set for Gor Mahia to fight for the continental dream, with Akonnor and his players determined to give everything in the second leg.
