Our latest signing, Ebenezer Adukwaw, announced himself in spectacular fashion with a match-winning brace against Sofapaka FC in the Kenya League at Dandora Stadium on Saturday evening.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian winger, who joined K’Ogalo earlier this month from Bechem United, described the double as a dream start to life at the record league champions.

“It feels great because I was hoping for this day. I managed to score two goals today and I am very happy,” said Adukwaw after the game.

Making mark
Adukwaw had shown glimpses of his quality in pre-season, featuring in matches against Ulinzi Stars and Simba SC, but was unable to influence our opening league loss to Bidco United. Against Sofapaka, however, he rose to the occasion.

His first goal came in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up to bundle the ball over the line. The second, however, was pure brilliance: collecting the ball in midfield, Adukwaw spotted Sofapaka goalkeeper Victor Kamungo off his line and unleashed a looping strike from distance that dropped under the crossbar. The audacious effort drew applause even from rival fans.

“That is one of my weapons. I can shoot from any angle, even with my left foot. When I saw the opportunity, I took it,” he explained.

Gratitude and ambition
The Ghanaian was quick to credit his teammates and coaching staff, led by fellow countryman Charles Akonnor, for easing his transition into Kenyan football.

“Scoring two goals is not easy. We worked for it and won as a team. I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and the entire technical staff for helping me achieve this,” he said.

Adukwaw admitted he had done his homework before moving to Kenya, studying videos of the team and the league to prepare for the step up.

Now, with his confidence soaring, he believes Gor Mahia can compete at the very top.

“Every game here is tough because the league is very competitive. But the coaches give us instructions that make things easier for us. My target is to help Gor Mahia win the league and compete with the best in Africa,” he declared.

Looking ahead
With his brace sparking Gor Mahia’s first win of the season after an opening-day setback, Adukwaw has already endeared himself to the Green Army. His flair, his versatility to be able to play as both winger and striker and eye for goal mark him out as a key figure in our quest to reclaim the title from Kenya Police FC.

As the team prepares to face KCB next weekend, all eyes will be on the Ghanaian forward to see if he can continue his scoring streak and cement his status as one of our newest stars.
