Gor Mahia FC have a rich and storied history on the continental and regional stage. For over five decades, it has proudly represented Kenya in CAF and CECAFA competitions.

Continental Footprint – CAF Competitions
Gor Mahia have participated in CAF inter-club competitions on 29 occasions, marking the club as one of Kenya’s most consistent continental representatives.

  • The club’s greatest triumph came in 1987, when it made history by winning the Africa Cup Winners’ Cup (Mandela Cup) — becoming the first and only Kenyan club to win a continental title.
  • In 1979, Gor Mahia were runners-up in the same competition, losing to Canon Yaoundé of Cameroon in the final.
  • The club reached the semi-finals in 1989 and has advanced to the quarter-final stage of CAF competitions six times, most recently in the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup, where the team reached the last eight — a modern-era highlight under Coach Hassan Oktay.

  • 1980 – Champions after a thrilling 3–2 win over Abaluhya FC
  • 1981 – Successfully defended the title with a 1–0 win over Tanzania’s Simba SC
  • 1985 – Secured their third regional title by beating AFC Leopards 2–0 in the final held in Khartoum, Sudan

The club made its last appearance in the CECAFA final in 2015, finishing as runners-up after a narrow loss to Tanzania’s Azam FC. Their most recent participation was in 2024, where they exited at the group stage.
