When Gor Mahia lined up against Simba SC in the recent international friendly, it didn’t feel like just another match. It felt like the first page of a new chapter as we gear up for the new season 2025/26.

You could sense it in the way the boys moved the ball, the neat passes complimented with runs, the way the bench reacted to every play, and most importantly, in the way the fans who managed to attend the match carried their voices across the stands when boys showed prowess in their art.

It wasn’t about the scoreline. This was about testing ourselves against one of East Africa’s fiercest rivals and showing that K’Ogalo is not here to participate, but to rise up to dominate once again. There were flashes of brilliance, clever link-ups, sharp defending, and the kind of spirit that makes you believe the new season will be something special.

The coaches used the game to experiment, to shuffle players, to see which combinations can carry us forward. Some of the new faces looked right at home, while the old guard reminded everyone why the green jersey is more than just a kit; it’s history, pride, and identity.

And then there were the fans. Loud, tireless, unshaken. Whether in full voice at the stadium or following from afar, the Green Army proved once again that we are never alone. That connection between the stands and the pitch is what will fuel us in the weeks ahead.

So, what did we learn from Simba SC? Gor Mahia is hungry. That this squad can do more if the few areas like sharpening the striking force were to be fixed as a matter of priority. And that as the season approaches, we’re not just preparing, we’re building momentum, together.

The journey has started and we hope for a better season.
