Gor Mahia head coach Charles Okonnor has hailed the team’s performance and growth following the high-profile preseason friendly against Tanzania’s Simba SC where the club was the official guest on Simba SC’s Simba Day.

Speaking after the match, Okonnor emphasized the importance of the fixture, noting that it was a step up in intensity compared to the club’s earlier preseason outings.

“It was an important match for the club. Among the four friendly matches we’ve played in preseason so far, this was on a much higher level and provided a fair assessment of the players,” he said.

Despite not securing a victory, the coach expressed satisfaction with the exposure and confidence his players gained, particularly under the vibrant match atmosphere.

“The positives are very good. Players had good exposure as the atmosphere was great. We were able to play and express ourselves very well, especially in the second half, though we needed to be more purposeful,” Okonnor reflected.

The Ghanaian tactician also indicated that the game may have been Gor Mahia’s final preseason friendly, adding that the technical bench now has a clearer picture of what needs to be fine-tuned ahead of the new campaign.

“I am happy with this match and the team is showing good progress. We believe we will improve and do well in the coming weeks. This is probably our last preseason friendly but going forward, we know what we need to do and bring on board. I believe we shall see the team in very good shape soon.”

With the new season fast approaching, fans will be encouraged by the steady progress under Okonnor as K’Ogalo prepares to mount another strong challenge in both domestic and continental competitions.
