Goalkeeper Gad Mathews is set to be airlifted to Nairobi after a sudden illness saw him hospitalised and miss the team’s ODM@20 final against Bandari at Mbaraki Stadium yesterday
The crisis began yesterday morning when Gad developed severe abdominal pain. According to Team Doctor Brian Odongo, the pain “gradually worsened over time,” leading to the decision to admit him to a Mombasa hospital for urgent investigation and treatment.
“On the morning of Friday, Gad Mathew experienced abdominal pain that gradually worsened over time. Due to the increasing severity of the pain, he was taken to the hospital where he has been admitted for further investigations and treatment,” stated Dr. Odongo.
While the rest of the squad departs for Nairobi today via the scheduled 3pm train, Mathews’s condition does not permit the long journey. He will be discharged later today and take a flight to the capital instead for further medical process.
Team Captain Philemon Otieno and a second Team Doctor, Joash Odhiambo, have remained in Mombasa to assist with the discharge process and ensure Mathews’s safe transit to the airport.
The entire Gor Mahia family wishes Gad a swift and full recovery.
