Gor Mahia bounced back to winning ways on Wednesday evening with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz at Kasarani Stadium, thanks to a decisive moment of quality from Alpha Onyango.

Handed the captain’s armband in place of Austin Odhiambo who started from the bench, Onyango rose to the occasion in the 19th minute, his effort beating Homeboyz goalkeeper Simon Masaka to give us the lead.

The goal proved enough on the day and brought much-needed relief after a challenging run of results that had seen us go 3 matches without a win,.

The move originated from an Enock Morrison corner, which was initially cleared by the Homeboyz defence. Mike Kibwage reacted quickest, nodding the ball back into Onyango’s path for him to strike first time and open his account for the season.

Gor Mahia controlled proceedings thereafter, managing the game with discipline and composure to protect the slender advantage until the final whistle.

The victory lifts us to the top of the league standings with 23 points.
