Gor Mahia’s outstanding run in the month of January has been rewarded with top individual honours, as Head coach Charles Akonnor and defender Paul Ochuoga were named the SportPesa League Coach and Player of the Month respectively.
K’Ogalo enjoyed a productive month, winning five of six matches and drawing the other, a run that reinforced the club’s position at the summit of the table. The accolades come with cash prizes of KSh. 75,000 for the Coach of the Month and KSh.50,000 for the Player of the Month.
For Coach Akonnor, this marks his second monthly award of the season, having previously been recognised in October. The January award reflects the team’s tactical discipline, resilience, and consistency during a demanding run of fixtures that included comeback victories and high-pressure encounters.
Paul Ochuoga’s recognition follows a series of decisive contributions at both ends of the pitch. The defender scored a crucial equalizer in the dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Murang’a Seal before delivering a stoppage-time winner against Bidco FC, moments that proved pivotal in maintaining momentum in the title race.
Gor Mahia’s dominance during the month was further underlined by strong representation in the Team of the Month, with Enock Morrison and Sylvester Owino joining Ochuoga in earning selection.
The awards highlight not only individual brilliance but also the collective form and consistency that have defined Gor Mahia’s start to the new year as the title race intensifies.
