Gor Mahia close in on 22nd title after dominant win

May 17, 2026

League leaders Gor Mahia moved to within touching distance of a record-extending 22nd Premier League title after a commanding 3-1 victory over Murang’a Seal at Nyayo Stadium today.

The win restores K’Ogalo’s four-point lead at the summit with only two matches remaining, piling pressure on second-placed AFC Leopards.

Gor started brightly, pinning their opponents back for much of the opening half. The breakthrough arrived in the 18th minute when Samuel Kapen brilliantly beat the offside trap before lifting a composed lob over the Murang’a goalkeeper.

Despite Charles Akonnor’s side pushing for a second, it was the Seal side that struck next with an equalizer in the 35th minute, sending the teams into halftime locked at 1-1.

Any hopes of a Seal comeback were extinguished early in the second half. Musa Shariff, who had troubled the opposition defense all afternoon, doubled Gor’s lead just seven minutes after the restart with a low driven finish into the bottom corner.

With the Nyayo crowd in full voice and Murang’a buckling under relentless pressure, substitute Ebenezer Assifuah made it 3-1 in the 76th minute. Shariff turned provider again a with fine work down the flank before setting up Assifuah for a cool finish.

K’Ogalo continued to hunt for more, though two further efforts were ruled out for fouls. At the final whistle, a relieved Murang’a Seal side walked off knowing the 3-1 scoreline could have been far heavier.

Gor Mahia now need just one win from their final two matches to seal the title, sitting on 68 points, four clear of AFC Leopards.
