Gor Mahia, Vipers set for CECAFA blockbuster in Kigali

July 27, 2026

We will face Ugandan side Vipers SC today in a high-stakes Group A clash at the CECAFA tournament in Kigali, with kickoff set for 4pm.

The two domestic powerhouses meet for the first time since the 2018 quarter-finals of the same competition, where we edged past Vipers 2-1.

Since then, both clubs have continued to dominate their respective leagues, Gor Mahia stretching their record to an astonishing 22 Kenyan titles, while Vipers have claimed eight Ugandan championships.

Gor Mahia enter the contest brimming with confidence after demolishing hosts APR FC 5-0 in opening match. However, head coach Charles Akonnor has urged caution, insisting the result doesn’t guarantee an easy ride.

“It’s going to be a different game. The fact that we won 5-0 in our first match doesn’t mean there will be a repetition. It will be a tough match, but we will find the right approach to it,” Akonnor stated.

Vipers too started their campaign emphatically, brushing aside Garde Republicaine of Djibouti 3-0.

Notably, the Ugandan side remain unbeaten in competitive matches this year, a testament to their formidable form.

With a win for either side virtually securing a semi-final berth with a game to spare, today’s encounter promises fireworks.
