Head coach Charles Akonnor and captain Mike Kibwage have both urged the squad to believe in their chances, despite the difficult task facing the squad.
Coach Akonnor believes his players have responded positively in training and are ready to give everything in Cairo.
“The boys have picked very well and they are very ready for the task ahead and so far so good,” the coach said.
Akonnor wants side to build on their improved second-half performance from the first leg while showing greater commitment and aggression.
“It is a tough one but we want to build on how we played the second half of the first leg, we want to be committed to what we do on Sunday,” he added.
Although the statistics may favour Pyramids, coach Akonnor insists Gor Mahia must ignore the odds and concentrate on correcting their mistakes.
“The statistics say that we don’t have a chance but we have the belief, let’s see how best we can play and correct the mistakes we made in the first leg,” he stated.
“I believe the boys have learnt and will approach the game very positively, and we will go in aggressively for us to win and get the results which we want,” Akonnor added.
Kibwage admitted that the home defeat was discouraging but insisted the players have regained their morale and are ready for the battle.
“We are confident that we can turn the situation on Sunday.
We know we have a mountain and big tasks but we have the morale and we want to push and ensure the effort does not go in vain,” Kibwage said.
The captain also revealed that the team has worked to lift the mood in camp and regain focus through fan activities.
With Kibwage’s fighting message and Akonnor’s belief driving the squad, Gor Mahia arrived in Cairo determined to produce a performance capable of keeping their continental dream alive.
