2025 review: A year of highs, lows

January 1, 2026
The 2025 season was one of resilience and reflection for Gor Mahia FC, a campaign defined by strong performances, narrow margins, and moments that ultimately fell just short of the club’s high standards.
We began the year firmly in the title race, consistently setting the pace at the top end of the table. However, despite a sustained push, the championship slipped away late in the season as Police FC edged us out for the league title, a disappointing outcome after months of hard work and belief.
Derby frustrations also marked the year. The Mashemeji derby proved unforgiving, with Gor Mahia failing to register a win across three league meetings in 2025, recording two draws and one defeat. For a fixture that means so much to the Green Army, these results were a source of understandable frustration to our fans.
Cup football offered hope, but ultimately ended in heartbreak. In June, we reached the FKF Mozzart Cup final after a stellar run, raising expectations of silverware and a return to continental football. Those hopes were dashed with a 2–1 defeat to Nairobi United, a result that closed the door on continental competition for the coming season.
By the Numbers
Despite the setbacks, the team delivered a solid body of work across the campaign:
Matches Played: 37 (excluding the abandoned match vs Nairobi United)
Wins: 19
Draws: 11
Losses: 7
Goals Scored: 52
Goals Conceded: 25
Clean Sheets: 20
The defensive record stood out as a major positive, with the team conceding fewer than a goal per game and keeping clean sheets in more than half of the matches played.
Standout Results
Biggest League Win:
Gor Mahia 4–0 Mara Sugar – 27 April
Biggest Cup Win:
Gor Mahia 5–0 Githurai All Stars – 9 March
Heaviest Defeat:
Gor Mahia 1–4 APS Bomet – 25 November
A total of 19 different players found the back of the net, underlining the team’s collective approach in attack.
Top Scorers in 2025:
Austin Odhiambo – 9 goals
Alpha Onyango – 8 goals
Musa Shariff – 5 goals
While 2025 did not deliver the silverware the club and its supporters demanded, it reinforced important foundations: defensive solidity, squad depth, and competitive consistency. The near-misses serve as motivation rather than deterrence.
We begin 2026 as one of the league leaders and there is optimism that this team will deliver our 22nd league title come June and see a return to the CAF Champions League where we belong.
