Gor Mahia’s player Musa Shariff and coach Charles Akonnor have started the season in style, winning SportPesa League’s inaugural Player and Coach of the Month awards for October 2025.
The honors come with a customised trophy, KSh 50,000 for Shariff and KSh 75,000 for Akonnor.
Shariff Musa: Player of the Month
Shariff played a key role in our perfect October run, helping the team to 3 wins in as many matches. While he contributed a goal and an assist, his performances earned him the top spot over other nominees, teammates Michael Kibwage and Enock Morrison and AFC Leopards defender Vincent Mahiga
“I am very happy to achieve this. I appreciate my colleagues for making it possible. It’s been all about belief and consistency,” Shariff said. “I also thank SportPesa, this makes the league more exciting and competitive.”
Charles Akonnor: Coach of the Month
Akonnor also made history as he claimed his first Coach of the Month award. Despite losing the league opener, Akonnor guided us to three clean wins in October, scoring six goals and conceding none to take us to the summit of the table.
He praised his technical team, the players, and the fans for their support:
“This award belongs to our fans, who turn up and win us the match even before it starts. I’m also grateful to my technical staff, the management, and the players for processing what we have taught them.”
