Gor Mahia were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a tightly contested 1-1 draw with a resilient Ulinzi Stars side at Kasarani Stadium, a result that sees us climb to second in the SportPesa League table but miss a chance to claim the top spot.
We started brightly, exploding into the lead in the sixth minute through striker Felix Oluoch. However, the joy was short-lived as Ulinzi Stars demonstrated their resilience, pegging us back with an equalizer in the 34th minute.
The second half saw both sides push aggressively for a winner, creating a series of chances at either end. Despite the increased tempo and end-to-end action, neither team could find the decisive breakthrough, with the match ultimately ending in a stalemate.
The single point earned pushes us to second place with 13 points, now sitting just a single point behind league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz. The missed opportunity to go top, however, left a palpable sense of frustration.
Head coach Charles Akonnor acknowledged his side’s shortcomings in his post-match remarks. “Well, it was a tough game and I think we were slow in the way we approached the game in the first half. We didn’t do much of compactness and we will have to improve in certain areas,” Akonnor stated.
The coach’s analysis underscores a need for tactical refinement as we look to convert these such hard-fought draw into crucial wins in their ongoing pursuit of the league title.
