Gor Mahia secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Shabana FC in a pulsating SportPesa League encounter at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday evening, restoring our 10-point cushion at the top of the table.
K’Ogalo started the match on the front foot, asserting early dominance and creating a string of chances. The persistence paid off in the 22nd minute when Jackson Dwang produced a composed finish after latching onto a well-weighted pass from Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw.
However, the lead proved short-lived as Shabana capitalized on a defensive lapse moments later to draw level, ensuring the sides went into the break tied at 1–1 despite our continued attacking intent.
The second half delivered end-to-end action, with both sides pushing for the decisive goal. Shariff Musa came close to restoring Gor Mahia’s lead on multiple occasions, first failing to get a decisive touch on Adu-Kwaw’s inviting cross in the 72nd minute, before seeing a powerful effort fly inches wide just four minutes later after Enock Morrison caused chaos in the box with a long throw.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 80th minute. Field captain Alpha Onyango rose highest to meet Dwang’s cross, guiding a clinical header into the net and sending the packed stadium into celebration.
From there, the boys managed the closing stages with composure, shutting down Shabana’s attempts at a response and seeing out the game to claim all three points.
The win underlined our resilience and reinforced our command at the summit as we continue to pile pressure on the chasing pack in the title race.
