Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor names a formidable squad for tonight’s must-win Group A encounter against Garde Républicaine of Djibouti at Kigali Pele Stadium, with kickoff slated for 8pm Kenyan time.
The sweeping changes signal the coach’s intent to leave nothing to chance as K’Ogalo fight to keep semifinal hopes alive following a loss to Ugandan side Vipers SC in their second group match.
Between the posts, Byrne Omondi has been handed the starting role and will be expected to provide a solid last line of defense.
In defense, Daniel Sakari will patrol the right-back position while Bryton Onyona has been tasked with manning the left flank.
At the heart of the defense, the central pairing of Mike Kibwage and Frank Odhiambo will be charged with protecting Omondi’s goal and neutralising any attacking threats from the Djiboutian side.
The midfield business will be orchestrated by a three-man unit comprising Alpha Onyango, Enock Machaka, and Lawrence Juma.
The trio will be expected to control the tempo of the game, break down opposition play and supply the forwards.
Upfront, all eyes will be on the attacking trident of Sharif Musa, Patrick Esombe and Paul Okoth who have been handed the responsibility of delivering the goals that could propel Gor Mahia into the semifinals.
Subs:
