Gor Mahia suffer second defeat

November 26, 2025

Gor Mahia suffered their second defeat of the 2025/26 campaign after a disappointing 1–4 loss to newly promoted APS Bomet in a league match played at Nyayo Stadium toaday.

With several key players rested in the packed fixture schedule, head coach Charles Akonnor opted for a rotated squad. The decision appeared to pay off early when George Amonno put us ahead in the 5th minute, scrambling home from a corner to lift the fans’ expectations of a dominant performance.

However, instead of building on the early advantage, we struggled to maintain momentum. APS Bomet grew into the game and were rewarded in the 39th minute after winning a penalty, which they converted to level the score. Against the run of play, the visitors struck again in the 42nd minute, overturning the contest and taking a 2–1 lead into halftime.

The second half brought further frustration for us. APS Bomet capitalized on defensive lapses to score their third goal in the 76th minute, before adding a stoppage-time fourth via a swift counterattack to seal a surprising but convincing victory.

Despite the setback, we remain top of the league table with 19 points, one ahead of second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz, and still hold a game in hand.

The boys will now look to regroup quickly as the focus shifts to the next league challenge, against perennial rivals AFC Leopards.
