Gor Mahia defender Frank Odiambo has dismissed talks of mounting pressure as the Kenyan Premier League enters its decisive phase, insisting they are taking each match as it comes.
Speaking after Sunday’s training session at Kasarani Stadium, where the team is preparing for Tuesday’s league clash against Tusker, the composed centre-back made it clear that calm heads will prevail.
“We are just taking it a game at a time because we don’t want to pile pressure on ourselves,” said Odiambo, who has been a commanding figure at the heart of K’Ogalo’s defense since his return to the club in January.
“We just take the games as they come. We are relaxed and looking forward to each game. If you put pressure on yourself, you will fumble,” he added.
Odiambo’s message of measured focus comes at a critical time in the season, with every point proving vital in the title race. Rather than fixating on the larger stakes, the defender emphasised a singular goal: win the next match.
His sentiments were echoed by striker Ebenezer Assifuah, who expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for Tuesday’s high-profile encounter.
“We are prepared well to face our opponents. I think it’s going to be an open game (against Tusker), and we are looking forward to getting the three points,” Assifuah said.
The Ghanaian forward also played down any individual scoring pressure, stressing that collective success outweighs personal glory.
“At this moment, I don’t think the pressure is going to be on the strikers. The most important thing is a win. It doesn’t matter who is going to score. The three points are the most important thing.”
With a relaxed but determined squad, Gor Mahia will hope to translate promising training sessions through the week into a vital victory when they face Tusker on Tuesday at Wang’uru Stadium.
