SportPesa League champions Gor Mahia face Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup winners Tusker FC in the 2026/27 season curtain raiser when the two clash in the FKF Super Cup on Sunday at Nyayo Stadium from 3pm.
It promises to be a hugely contested affair between the two most successful sides in the Super Cup era.
Since the competition was inaugurated in its current format in 2009, Gor Mahia have lifted the trophy a record seven times, while Tusker follow with three titles
The two clubs have also developed an intriguing history in this particular competition, having faced each other five times in the Super Cup with Gor Mahia winning outright on one occasion (2017) and the other four encounters having to be decided on post-match penalties.
Tusker emerged victorious in the shootouts of 2012, 2014 and 2021, while K’Ogalo had their moment of success from the spot in 2013.
That history sets up another fascinating encounter on Sunday and for Gor Mahia, the match presents an opportunity to begin the defence of their league crown with another piece of silverware.
The fixture also comes at an important stage of preparations for both clubs, with continental assignments awaiting in September. Sunday therefore offers more than just a trophy as it provides a valuable competitive test as the teams fine-tune their squads for the challenges ahead.
The first domestic trophy of the new season is up for grabs.
