Defender Sylvester Owino has been officially named as the new Gor Mahia captain, following the retirement of long-serving skipper Philemon Otieno.

The towering centre-back, who joined K’Ogalo in 2022 from Kakamega Homeboyz, will now lead the 22-time Kenyan Premier League champions into a new era.

The decision to appoint Owino was jointly made by the club’s technical bench and management, who cited his outstanding performances and unwavering dedication since arriving at the club.

Owino will be assisted by Mike Kibwage and Alpha Onyango, who have been named as his vice-captains.

In the absence of the three senior leaders, Lawrence Juma and Ebenezer Assifuah will step up to take charge of the team.

The appointment comes as Philemon Otieno retires after more than a decade of service to the club.

Otieno, a fan favorite and a pillar in the defense, leaves behind a legacy of leadership and commitment that Owino will now look to build upon.

Since his arrival from Kakamega Homeboyz, Owino has grown into a key figure in the Gor Mahia backline, earning the trust of both fans and the coaching staff with his consistency and professionalism.

Speaking on the appointment, the club expressed confidence that the new leadership structure will bring stability and renewed energy as the club continues its campaign for domestic and continental fixtures.
