After six memorable seasons in green and white, we bid farewell to goalkeeper Gad Mathews as he departs the club following the expiry of his contract.
Having joined K’Ogalo for the 2020/21 season, Gad arrived with little fanfare but quickly grew into one of the country’s most dependable goalkeepers. Through hard work, resilience and professionalism, he established himself as a key figure between the posts and played an important role during one of the club’s most successful recent periods.
His defining moment came in the 2021 FKF Cup final against AFC Leopards. After a goalless draw, Gad produced a heroic display in the penalty shootout, saving two spot-kicks as Gor Mahia secured a 4-1 victory to lift the trophy and book a return to continental football. It remains one of the most memorable performances by a Gor Mahia goalkeeper in recent years.
Mathews enjoyed another outstanding campaign during the 2022/23 season, playing a pivotal role as Gor Mahia reclaimed the FKF Premier League title. His remarkable consistency saw him keep 17 clean sheets, earning him a share of the FKF Premier League Golden Glove Award and cementing his place among the league’s elite goalkeepers.
Although injuries and increased competition for places limited his appearances in the seasons that followed, Gad remained an important member of the squad. His experience, leadership and professionalism proved invaluable both on and off the pitch as he continued to support the team whenever called upon.
During the 2025/26 championship-winning campaign, Mathews embraced his role within the squad, providing dependable cover in goal and contributing to the team’s successful march to a record-extending 22nd FKF Premier League title. While opportunities were fewer, his commitment and positive influence helped the club maintain the standards expected of champions.
