Title hopes firmly on track after draw

May 10, 2026

Gor Mahia staged a dramatic late comeback to secure a 1-1 draw against Police FC in a tightly contested SportPesa League match on Sunday, keeping their title hopes firmly on track.

Police FC caught Gor Mahia off guard early, punishing a slow start to take a crucial first-half lead.

The law enforcers then defended resolutely, limiting K’Ogalo’s attacking threats and carrying their advantage into the break.

However, the second half told a different story. Head coach Charles Akonnor made tactical changes that instantly injected much-needed energy and tempo into his side.

Gor Mahia emerged from the tunnel a transformed team, pinning Police FC deep into their own half for long stretches of the match.

The sustained pressure finally paid off with just four minutes remaining on the regular clock. Substitute Ebenezer Assifuah rose to the occasion, slamming home the equalizer to send the Gor Mahia fans into celebration.

Despite dominating the final stages and creating several clear-cut opportunities, Gor Mahia couldn’t find the winner.

Police FC, relieved to escape with a point, held on grimly as the home side wasted chance after chance.

While the dropped points will feel like a missed opportunity, the draw extends Gor Mahia’s lead (65 points) at the top of the table to seven points with only three matches left to play, edging them closer to another league title.
